Random Photos from the last two weeks

I found a nice spders web in the garden, so had a go at trying to capture him in the web - unfortunately he was facing the other way, so I have a photo of his underside.

The macro lens did work well for it though

I also found an interesting strawberry in a punnett from the supermarkey, it had a flower on it. So two speedlight flashes and I tried a close-up shot

And we have been playing a lot of scrabble since the awfully wet weekend we had, which complelled us to go out for the purpose of buying scrabble. I was playing with the aperture to reduce the depth of field.

Hinton Ampner

On Saturday we decided to visit Hinton Ampner, and joined the National Trust (a bargain at £19.50 for anyone up to the age of 25)

How a linux box becomes part of a zombie bot-net

Found via Schneier, this article on how a linux box became a zombie was a really interesting read. Both from an analysis of how the box was compromised, and some insight into the reality of trackind down the cracker. I think I could really enjoy a computer security job…

Renewing car tax online

I just renewed my motorcycle tax online at http://www.direct.gov.uk/taxdisc and found it as simple as I did last year. I am still amazed at how many posts Andy gets on his blog post on the subject from people who keep complaining about it being complex or asking advice. Especially as he is obviously not connected with the DVLA and the website for registering online is printed on the tax renewal form that is sent out!

Canon EOS 40D announced

Canon EOS 40D, previewed: Digital Photography Review

I have been holding off buying a new camera to see what this one would be like. I have to say, it looks worth the extra money.

The large sensor and self cleaning are one thing, but the live shooting mode (shoot through screen like a compact digital camera) looks incredible… I will be spending a while hunting for the best price on this camera.

Wedding Photos

I have finally put up my photos from the wedding I took last weekend. I took over 1000 photos, and was glad I borrowed an extra camera (even if it did have a few technical glitches).

I was not expecting to take so many photos, so having extra memory cards was essential, and my new super fast memory card was incredibly useful, and having two identical cameras I could really notice the speed difference in saving the images to the card.

It was a tough day, and I made mistakes that I was shocked at when I got back to a computer - the stress of the day makes it very easy to forget things like changing the ISO when moving from outside to inside. I guess practice will solve that.

All in all, I would probably do another wedding, or other large event, even though the day was stressful I still really enjoyed it.
Let me know what you think of the photos. I tried to limit what I uploaded, but still eneded up with almost 250 online
