Excellent post, thanks. I really like Ubuntu, it's the first nix environment to really start to rival MAC in terms of usability in my view (possibly a bit strong), but in terms of the work I do it's nice to be able to test out installations across a multitude of platforms. The biggest thing I'll take from this is the forcing debian to use rpm, will give that a go...Cheers!

Highly recommend anyone using MQ 7.0.1 on Ubuntu to be running the latest fixpack. Some of the older fixpacks have a nasty bug where shutting down the QM breaks it such that it cannot be restarted. An install of the latest fixpack allows you to restart the queue manager

I bought a 2nd hand Kindle a month or 2 ago and it still stands as one of the best things I ever bought. I was also worried about the DRM and not actually owning the books I bought, but then I realised how much I used Steam which has exactly the same issues without being bothered.

The best thing I found as well is that you can actually up0load .mobi files to it, and since there are conversion programs like Calibre out there it means I can throw my Cory Doctorow novels on it without much of an issue at all.

Hi Anton.
Great discussion on IBM internal use of Linux/open source stuff in the Ubuntu UK podcast :-)

I loved it - had to go back and listen for a second time. "Brilliant" (as those guys would say).

You described our IBM success story very well (more than 20.000 Linux users at this time - and growing!) while also giving interesting points on some of the difficulties of the grass root like efforts that often drive open source implementation.

I'll have to admit I felt rather proud to be a very small part of that IBM open source revolution that you spearhead - so I booted my RHEL 6.1 with a smile this morning - thanks to you :-)

Regards,

Thomas Simonsen
