UK’s newest sport | UK Ultimate
UK Ultimate is delighted to announce that on 10th November 2008 confirmation was received that Ultimate has been officially “recognised” by UK Sport and the home country Sports Councils: Sport England, sportscotland, Sports Council Wales and Sport Northern Ireland.
The main reason I had heard before that it hadn’t been accepted is because the sport explicitly doesn’t have referees - the game is refereed by all the players together, acting in “the Spirit of the Game”
Perhaps most of all it is worth stopping to consider that this milestone also means official acceptance of, and support for, self-refereeing and the Spirit of the Game.
It is interesting to see that the lack of referees didn’t actually stop it being accepted
Yesterday the Hursley Ultimate Club went to Sandbanks to play. I brought a camera so along with lots of fun and some bruised feet from stepping on stones hidden in the sand, I have some photos from the afternoon.

Campo also brought along his fire-poi, so there are some photos of that too

Yesterday morning the Hursley Ultimate Club played a friendly against Southampton Skunks. We both turned up with 2 teams, and played 2 games each.
It was really good fun, and nice to play different people for a change. The hall at Southampton is much bigger than the one we have to play in, so it took a while to get used to the extra space. We drew two games, won one and lost one, so all in all a fairly even game.
I am looking forward to playing a few more games and maybe entering a tournament at some point.
